CALL GLHF WITH QUESTIONS ABOUT

CHANGES IN INSURANCE

David Linney

Most of us have health and drug plan coverage through an employer or through Medicaid or Medicare.  Benefits and coverage can change if an employer or if Medicare or Medicaid makes a change or if we have a change in our circumstances.

At such times it is good to review your overall insurance status and benefits.

Some examples of such circumstances follow:

·        Your employer changes health and/or drug plans

·        Your employer offers more than one insurance plan (open enrollment)

·        You or your spouse become eligible for job insurance or change jobs

·        You or your spouse lose your job

·        Your son/daughter turns 19 and is not a full time student

·        Your son/daughter graduates from post secondary schooling

·        Your “dependent” son/daughter gets married

·        Your son/daughter drops out of school

·        You or a family member become eligible for Medicaid through Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

·        You or a family member become ineligible for SSI

·        Medicaid requires you to join an HMO

·        You become eligible for Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) and Medicare (24 months after receiving the first benefit check)

·        You become ineligible for SSDI

·        You become Medicare eligible and need to consider Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare Medigap (Supplemental) plans and Medicare Part D plans.

Understanding your insurance options and benefits is critical for good insurance planning.  Developing an insurance plan will be based on your specific situation.  Call David Linney GLHF’s Insurance Counselor at (414) 257-0200 or toll free at 1-888-797-4543 to help with your insurance questions.
