Advocacy is the act of speaking or writing in support of something.
For GLHF, advocacy involves speaking or writing on behalf of persons with hemophilia and bleeding disorders.  The purpose of GLHF advocacy is to influence policy, procedure, law or administrative rule so that GLHF clients will benefit and be protected; or, in the case of harm, have the harm undone.

What is Public Policy Advocacy?

Public Policy Advocacy involves a formal or informal policy in the public or private sector that may affect clients with hemophilia or a bleeding disorder.

  •  An example of where public policy advocacy might be needed: If a school or employer policy adversely affects an individual with a bleeding disorder and goes counter to the “standards” for individuals with bleeding disorders.

  • Specific Examples of  Advocacy:

    • Write letters and make phone calls to the entity that establish the policy

    • Contact the media to get publicity about the "problem"
