An industry wide product recall information
system, called the Patient Notification System has been launched to inform people when a
blood product is being withdrawn or recalled. The Great Lakes Hemophilia Foundation
is urging everyone to register with the Patient Notification System so they can be
directly notified of problems with a blood product.
The Patient Notification System is being
administered by the National Notification Center. This center is restricted from revealing
the identity of anyone who is registered.
Each person who registers with the Patient
Notification System can select how they wish to be notified (whether by
telephone, fax, or e-mail). All participants will receive a follow-up first-class letter
to ensure the receipt of this valuable information. Additionally, a person who registers
can select which products they wish to be notified about.
There is another component to the system.
Participants can also call for information at
1-888-UPDATE-U or check the system web site http://www.patientnotificationsystem.org.
