January 25, 2007 GLHF ADVOCACY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

BloodCenter of Wisconsin, Milwaukee

 

Members in Attendance:  John Martin, Celine Caithamer, Kimberly Haugstad

 

Members Absent:  Shelly Mattson, Barb Dittrich, Steve McMurtry, Fred Tamms

Staff in Attendance:  Kathleen Roach, David Linney

 

The meeting was called to order at 5:55 p.m.

 

Standard of Service Document:  The document is currently in the hands of NHF. MASAC is in leadership transition but the plan is to get their approval.

ACTION:  If by April 1, NHF has not moved forward with the standard document, the advocacy committee will look to other sources such as HFA.  It was discussed to continue to bring the standard of service up in our discussions at the state level and in fact the Standard of Service is one of the four key points shared with state legislators.

 

Meeting with legislators:  The meetings in December went very well.  Committee members met with 8 state senators and representatives.  Five additional appointments have been scheduled.

ACTION:  John Martin, David and Kathleen will meet with representatives on January 31, 2007.  In addition a meeting has been scheduled with the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin on the same day.

 

Advocacy Training: THE GLHF Wisconsin advoorkshop.  Committee will discuss possible names of people through out the state who would be invited to the training.

cacy training will take place on May 11 and 12 in Madison, WI.  GLHF will work with Baxter on developing materials and agenda for the training.  Suggestions from the committee included developing a guide for individuals (shorter version of our draft handbook).

ACTION:  Kathleen will contact Baxter to begin developing w

 

Washington Days: There are currently 10-11 people attending Washington Days March 7-9.

ACTION: 1)Celine is working on scheduling appointments for Thursday, March 8; 2) Kimberly will ask for letters from Ron Bark, Shelly Mattson, GLHF Board members; 3)Kimberly will develop a template or sample letter that can be used; 4) Celine will contact Denise Alexander for a letter of support.  Celine will contact Wyeth to see if funding is available for another person (s) to attend Washington Days; 5) Kathleen and David will contact Jeff Wade, Katie and Ed Bekx and the HTC’s for support letters.
