National Prevention Program

Follow these key steps to ensure a lifetime of opportunities.

1.  Visit your hemophilia treatment center (HTC) annually for a comprehensive check-up.

HTCs offer comprehensive one-stop services for testing and care.  People who use the HTC live longer, healthier lives.
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1998.)

2.  Get vaccinated -- Hepatitis A and B are preventable.

Get vaccinations and information at your HTC.

3.  Treat bleeds early and adequately.

Be prepared.  Recognize a bleed and seek treatment quickly.

4.  Exercise and maintain a healthy weight to protect your joints.

Exercise strengthens your muscles, and strong muscles protect your joints.

5.  Get tested regularly for blood-borne infections.

Know your test results.  It matters to you and to your family.
