Consumer Development Scholarships

Each year, through the Consumer Development Scholarship Program, the Great Lakes Hemophilia Foundation awards patients and their families funding to offset the cost of hotel accommodations and travel expenses while attending the NHF Annual Meeting.

The program is designed to provide new and exciting opportunities for members of the Wisconsin bleeding disorders community.  The recipients of a Consumer Development Scholarship Program award attend the NHF Annual Meeting as representatives of GLHF and Wisconsin.  Their role as a representative gives them a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those affected by bleeding disorders, and become leaders in their community. While they participate in the many exciting workshops and activities at the Meeting, they are encouraged to take note of programs and services that would strengthen GLHF’s ability to serve the Wisconsin bleeding disorders community.

Attending the NHF Annual Meeting is an extremely positive experience for anyone affected by a bleeding disorder. GLHF understands the importance of supporting consumers’ interest in attending this meeting.  Programs like the Consumer Development Program are made possible because of a commitment from our donors and corporate friends.  If you’d like to support this most worthwhile program, please contact the Foundation.

Individual Class Scholarship

This new scholarship (#2 above) is being offered to continue the Foundation’s goal to improve the quality of life for individuals affected by bleeding disorders through career advancement and improved vocational opportunities.

Applicants can receive up to $500.00 per class per scholarship period. All awards will be presented on behalf of the recipient directly to the institution where the class will take place. Repeat applications are welcomed. Previous recipients are considered at no advantage or disadvantage with other applicants.

The evaluation of each applicant will be based on achieving the long-term goals of the Scholarship Program:

  • Improved patient and family access to insurance,

  • Decreased dependency on public sources of support, and

  • Increased commitment to the bleeding disorders community.

Applicants will be evaluated using a number of criteria including personal circumstances and financial need.  Priority will be granted to individuals with bleeding disorders, then parents of children with bleeding disorders and then spouses of individuals with bleeding disorders.

In order to be considered for an award, an application must be received in the GLHF office.  Faxed applications will not be accepted.  Incomplete applications will not be evaluated.  A complete application will consist of:

  • Completed Application Form

  • Acceptance Letter from the program

Please send the application and all other materials to:
The Program Services Committee, Great Lakes Hemophilia Foundation, 638 N. 18th Street, Suite 108, Milwaukee, WI 53233.

The award decision will be announced at the GLHF Board of Directors meeting in May. We look forward to reviewing your application materials. Good luck to you! Please call 414-257-0200 or toll free at 888-797-4543 if you have any questions.
